Suggestions On How to Write an Essay Outline
When starting an essay, an outline can be very helpful to you. An outline can give you a strong foundation for a good essay. An outline is like a blueprint for writing a good essay. You put down all of the key points that you want to make or facts that you would like to include. Having all of your thoughts down on paper can make the essay itself that much easier. Then all you have to do is look at the outline and write down sentences about the thoughts in your outline.
How to make an outline
A good outline includes all of the key information that you want to cover. Here is a sample of a good outline and what it will include.
- Introduction
- Good opening to grab the audience
- Ideas for what it will include
- Introduction to your topic
- State the essays objective
- Body paragraphs
- Key information to make your point
- List of points to make
- Ideas for each individual paragraph
- Separate topics and what paragraph they are included in
- Conclusion
- Restate your point in a different manner than before
- Make your points clear
- A strong ending for your conclusion
The outline that you make should look similar to the one above. Yours will include each individual paragraph and points to make in each.
Foundation
This outline will make the perfect blueprint for your essay. You will be able to look at it and see that you wrote down ideas for the introduction. Then you can write the introduction using those key ideas and make sentences out of those ideas keeping in mind that this is where you need to grab your audience.
Then you will move to the first paragraph in the body of the essay. This is where you will start getting into your key points and really explaining or exploring them with your audience. You will use separate paragraphs for each key point you want to make stand out. Each body paragraph will be written based on the ideas in the outline you have made. This will make the information flow easier into the essay.
Once you have made all of your key points and are done with the body of the essay you can use the outline to conclude the essay. The conclusion is the last paragraph and so it is where you want to make your points again in different words but strongly. You want this to be where you really conclude all of the ideas and make your points clear to the audience.
The outline makes for much easier writing as you have already come up with the ideas and points to express. Writing is a lot easier when you don’t need to look at books or websites. All of the information you will need will be shortened in the outline. This often helps to keep you on track and make for a solid essay that clearly makes your point and has a good structure that you thought out beforehand.
